New Horizons GIST – Special Topic: Mutational Analysis in GIST as a guide for the right therapy - May 7, 2021
For several years now NEW HORIZONS GIST is the most important global platform for GIST patient advocates with a focus on discussing critical information about GIST that impacts the global GIST patient and medical communities. Due to the current coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 New Horizons GIST conference was held as a virtual conference in September 2020 (see a report about the meeting and its very interesting sessions pdf here (1.53 MB) (pdf download) as well as all available ressources including presentations and recordings here).
In an extra 2 hours online meeting at 7th of May we focused on
"Mutational Analysis in GIST as a guide for the right therapy" as a special topic.
The programme included the following talks:

GIST-Pathologist: Dr. Andrew Rosenberg, USA - What is the role of a pathologist in the interdisciplinary GIST team? - How do GISTs arise genetically / biologically? - What types of mutations are there in GIST? - Closer look on mutations in KIT/PDGFRA? - What is the difference between primary and secondary mutations? - Does the mutation have an impact on the course of the disease / prognosis? GIST-Pathologist: Eva Wardelmann, GER - In simple steps: How does such a mutational analysis work? - Costs, time and efforts of mutational analysis? - What role does/can liquid biopsy play in GIST? - What do we know about rare mutations - - What are the three most burning (scientific) questions |

Previous New Horizons GIST Meetings
For several years now, NEW HORIZONS GIST is the most important global annual conference for GIST patient advocates. At NEW HORIZONS GIST, patients from the global GIST patient community come together, can interact with top GIST experts, have access to state‐of‐the‐art medical and scientific information and can exchange best practice in patient advocacy among each other. The conference is a balanced symbiosis of medical content, advocacy topics and capacity building sessions. It is held every year and organised by either American Groups (The Life Raft Group/Alianza GIST) or European Groups in cooperation with SPAEN.
NEW HORIZONS GIST 2020 was held virtually due to COVID-19. Please see all relevant information here.
