Organisation Profile

Founded in 2002 by teenage bone cancer patient Guy Francis shortly before his death, the Guy Francis Bone Cancer Research Fund is dedicated to questioning "Why" primary bone cancer is the UK’s Number 1 Teenage and Young Adult Cancer.

The “Why Guy?” campaign questions the Causes? Lifestyle? Environment? Detection? Treatment? & Survival? of bone cancer on teenagers and young adults. By funding vital medical and social research, the Fund works towards finding answers to these issues.

Through promotional campaigning and advocacy, it seeks to advance awareness and education amongst the general public and healthcare professionals. Through its S.I.G.N.S™ Patient Checklist Initiative, it encourages patients to ask for expert advice so reducing risk to their long-term survival due to delay or misdiagnosis.

Its advocational "Patient Voice" programme lobbies Government and Agencies on patients' rights, national research funding inadequacies and important welfare reform issues associated with long-term treatment and physical disability.
